The Pocket Cloud Book – How to Understand the Skies

April 2023

I worked with author Doctor Richard Hamblyn and publisher David & Charles in association with the Met Office on a pocket-sized book of different cloud types that explains how to understand the skies.

Throughout history, clouds have been objects of fascination, their fleeting magnificence and endless variability providing food for thought for scientists and daydreamers alike. Most clouds can be identified as belonging to a particular species as well as to one of ten main genera, with its specific name alluding to a characteristic shape or structure.

Whether you’re looking at a giant cumulonimbus or a tiny shred of stratus fractus, The Pocket Cloud Book helps readers to identify individual clouds, skies and phenomena, track their likely changes over time and predict their implications for the weather. It is the perfect size to take on walks or to have handy in the garden for sky-gazing. It also includes a section on climate change and the role that clouds might play in shaping future conditions on Earth.
